Over The Top Hair Bow Tutorial

Monday, November 21, 2011

I think "over-the-top" hair bows are SO darling and girly! Some may think they are a little much but that is what makes them so cute!

This is a tutorial on a miniature Over-the-top hair bow, the thing about these is the more unique they are the better! So I would use this tutorial as a guideline then totally make up your own creation! You can go bigger or smaller and change things around, just make it your own!

Here is what you will need..

Glue gun
Ribbon (I recommend at least 3 different kinds, but the more the better!)
headband
feather boa

Start off taking the biggest ribbon and gluing the ends together.
I used 4 strips to create a base.

Then glue all 4 sides together.

I did two layers of this step.. You can stick to one or do more depending on how big you want your bow.

Next glue the top side and bottom side of the ribbon ends together.

I also did this step twice.

Glue those to the base.

Take the feather boa and cute off a little piece and glue it to the middle of the bow.

Then glue the bow to a headband or clip!

And your done!!

It is super easy to make and they turn out so cute! I love the really big ones, especially for special occasions and pictures.

Week 20

How far along?  20 weeks & 3 days.. I am a little late on blogging this week.
Total weight gain/loss: about 6 lbs now!
Maternity clothes? I have one maternity shirt and a belly band.. still trying to stay in my same clothes though!

Stretch marks? Nope.
Best moment this week: Feeling lots and lots of movement! Daddy finally felt his first kick!
Miss Anything? Not that I can think of!

Movement: Yes pretty much every day! The Ultra Sound Tech said she was very active.. just like her brother was!
Food cravings: Um.. Not so much this week.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.
Have you started to show yet: Yep, I call this the "awkward stage".. where people don't know if I am pregnant for sure or just got a little belly on me haha!
Gender: Girl!
Labor Signs: Nope.
Belly Button in or out? Almost flat.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy  :)
Looking forward to: Her being here!!! Is it too soon?? I literally can not wait!!

We got in confirmed from the doctor that she is for sure a GIRL! Yay! Now we don't have to make any returns and can feel safe picking out more baby items!!

We also finally were able to order her crib.. So excited! I told Devan he has 7-10 business days to paint her room cause as soon as the crib gets here I know I am going to want to set it up!! I don't think his work schedule and the holidays are going to allow us to paint the room just yet though.. lame!

Oh and I have to tell you about our awesome find this week! So we went to find a baby monitor for her nursery. I really wanted to get a video one, so I don't have to run in there every time she makes even the slightest sound and I can feel comfortable knowing I can see her at all times. So when we were at the store looking for which one we wanted the sales guy showed us thee coolest baby monitor.

So its video and has a mat that the baby lays on so that you know if she is breathing or not! If she stops breathing for any reason then an alarm will go off so that we can get to her as fast as possible! How cool is that?? I remember when Titan first came home from the hospital I would wake up about every 30 minutes and watch him to make sure he was breathing. Maybe I am just a way paranoid mom but I think this is an awesome invention! Technology seriously amazes me some days.. but I am so grateful for it!!

Tutu Tutorial.

Sunday, November 20, 2011

So, I am in love with little girls tutus!

I think they are not only perfect for pictures and special occasions but everyday! I started making them as a hobby and thought I would share the super easy tutorial on how to make your very own!

Here is what you will need..

Tulle
Elastic
Ribbon

And that's it!

First cut everything into the right sizes..

Newborn - 6months: waist 14", length 6/7"
6-12 months: waist 16", length 7/8"
12months - 2Toddler: waist 18", length 9"
2Toddler - 3Toddler: waist 19", length 10"
4 Toddler - 5Toddler: waist 20", length 11"
5Toddler - 6Toddler: waist 21", length 12"
Make sure to cut everything an inch larger than the sizes above.

Okay so then I sew the two ends of the elastic together.

Next take to two pieces of tulle and cross them like so..

I put my elastic around a paper towel roll, makes it easier to tie the tulle.
Next, wrap the crossed end under the elastic..

Reach under and through the loop grasping the strip. Pull the tail through the loop.

This then makes a slip knot, pull it tight. But be careful tying tulle strips around the elastic to not stretch out the band.

Continue doing this around the waist band.

Then add your favorite ribbon, tying it in a bow...
 And finally your done!!

Letter to baby: Week 19

Monday, November 14, 2011

I absolutely love the idea of writing letters to the baby before she is born.
So I decided to do it.
But not just me, my husband too!
Every week till she is born.
Possibly turn it in to a book one day?
And I also decided I want to write a letter to each one of my kids on their birthday every year then give it to them when they are older.

Here are my husband and I's letter to our baby girl.

Week 19

Sunday, November 13, 2011

How far along: 19 weeks.
Total weight gain: about 5 pounds.
Maternity clothes: Haven't had to wear any yet.
Sleep: Doing okay with sleeping!
Stretch marks: Nope!
Best moment of the week: We went to the Doctors and got to hear our baby girl's heartbeat! :)
Miss anything: Um just sleeping on my stomach.
Moment: Yep, not enough for Devan to feel yet but I definitely can!
Food Craving: Anything but sweets still.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really..
Have you started to show yet: Yep!
Gender: Girl.
Labor Signs: Not yet.
Belly button in or out: Its almost flat.
Wedding rings on or off: Still on.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Confirming if it is a girl!! ha

SOOOO funny story...
Those of you who know about pregnancy and babies should know that the doctors usually like you to wait until you are 19-21 weeks until they find out the gender, because while they are doing that ultra sound they are also looking at the heart, brain, doing a lot of measuring, ect.. to make sure everything is okay with the baby.

Well my doctor said they won't do that ultra sound until 19 weeks.. But technically you can find out the gender around 16 weeks. So we went to a different doctor to find out the gender, which she said was a girl.

So this past week we were at my normal doctor and he asked if we had already scheduled the big ultra sound appointment. We said not yet, but that we would do it when I was 21 weeks since I already knew the gender. He then informed me that when you find out the gender that early they can be wrong..

UM YIKES!!

We decided to put a stop to buying anything pink until we have a confirmed answer from the doctor that she is a girl!! Which is scheduled for Monday the 21st, crossing my fingers we don't have to make tons of returns for everything we already bought!!

Week: 18

Saturday, November 5, 2011

How far along? 18 weeks now!
Total weight gain/loss: 3-4 lbs.
Maternity clothes? I bought a belly band, haven't had to use it yet though!

Stretch marks? Nope.
Best moment this week: Feeling LOTS of movement and even a few kicks!
Miss Anything? I am getting nervous to sleep on my stomach still, so I stopped doing that. I LOVE sleeping on my tummy, so I miss that! BOO!

Movement:
Yep, love it.
Food cravings: Still potatoes, mashed or baked. Love them. And still am not loving anything sweet, I should add that to what I miss part.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really.
Have you started to show yet:  I think so! Hubby said he can tell I am getting bigger.
Gender: 95% GIRL, still. We have a doctors appointment tomorrow that will confirm the gender!
Labor Signs: Nope.
Belly Button in or out? Still looking pretty odd.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy, happy :)

Looking forward to: Seeing her on the ultra sound and making sure she is healthy and growing good!!

Nursery Ideas.

Friday, November 4, 2011

It may be a wee-bit soon to start on the nursery,
but I can hardly wait!

I have wanted a girl for quite sometime so I am more then ready to start getting everything all set up for the nursery. The only problem is I see so many cute things I want to try, then I end up not being able to make up my mind!

First things first, the color of the room. At first I wanted to do something that would work for both genders but who am I kidding? I can't resist not doing pink! Therefore I picked my main color of the room.. PINK! But of course, I needed to add a little more to that.

I loved pink & green..

Loved Pink, white and gray.

And loved pink and blue.

So I set out to find a crib bedding set in one of those colors. I didn't have much luck with any of those color but I did find something I loved even more!

Pink, white and taupe (tan-ish color) with a damask pattern.

Sorry the coloring is kind of hard to see!

And I went ahead and ordered this bedding from

I love it!!

All of the extras were kind of pricey so instead of buying them I am going to make my own! :) The website is pretty cool in the fact that you can order the matching fabric. So I did, which was a lot cheaper! My husband got me a sewing machine a couple months back and I absolutely love it! I am so excited to create some new things for the nursery!!

I am going to make LOTS of pillow, a lamp shade, curtains, a diaper pad cover and possibly a blanket. (I will put up all the tutorials when I do make them with the finished project! :)

We are still debating how to paint the nursery.. I am loving strips lately.

But can't decided if I like horizontal or vertical ones better.

We are also going to redo a dresser we have! Devan wants to build a diaper changing station on top of it instead of just putting the diaper changing pad on top, he thinks it will be a little safer. Then we are going to paint it white to match the crib we picked out!

I also want to make the cute lettering with her name above the crib!

So as you can see we definitely have our work cut out for us! Maybe it is a good idea that I started planning it early!

I will post updates on the nursery as we complete them!!
:)

Excitement.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

If I haven't said it before, I LOVE Pinterest!

I am glad I am already pregnant because if I wasn't, going on this site would make me so baby hungry! It is making me barley even be able to wait the next 5 months!

I am more than excited for my baby girl to get here! Newborns are the most precious things ever! I even think that their cry is the sweetest thing (ha I know, ask me that in about 8 months when I haven't slept in days)!

And I would be lying if I didn't say how excited I am to get her all dressed up in pink and ruffles!

I am also SO excited for Titan to be a big brother! I know he is going to be so sweet with her all her life, because after all that's what big brothers are for!

And I can't wait to teach her everything she needs to know.

Of course, she will be daddy's little girl.

(Oh, and I am so excited to put her in dance might I add! ha)

I am just so excited to have our baby girl here!! She is already SO loved!
